West 112th Avenue Widening Project
This summer the city began using the 2009 voter-approved 4.0 mill property tax extension funds earmarked for street reconstruction and rehabilitation. During the budget process, approximately $1 million of the funds were appropriated to improve W. 112th Avenue a major arterial street in the city.
This project included construction work to widen the street and add an eastbound lane from Alcott Street east to Pecos Street. Other additional project items included storm drainage improvements, an asphalt mill and overlay and trail enhancements.
Asphalt Specialties Company, the low bidder, selected for this construction project began working on the project early summer with tree removal, storm sewer infrastructure construction and utility relocates. Construction continued with the widening of the street from Alcott east to Pecos Street and then asphalt mill and overlay. Asphalt Specialties Company expects to be complete with this major capital improvement project by the end of November. In the event of inclement weather conditions, work may be delayed.
Nov. Update
Motorists who travel West 112th Avenue may notice that the curb and gutters are in place and the street widening is complete. The final finishing touches of landscaping and irrigation are scheduled for installation by the end of November.
Motorists are reminded to follow all traffic control devices, including reduced speed limit signs within the construction zone.
