Al Thomas Playground Replacement

Al Thomas Playground Replacement
The new playground at Alvin B. Thomas is now open to the public.
As part of the 2011 Parks and Recreation Master Plan, the playground was renovated in November 2011.
The following enhancements were made as part of the project:
• The main playground structure was completely replaced,
• Several components for younger children were added,
• The existing swings and climbing structure were re-painted and refurbished,
• The fence on the south side of the park was replaced,
• A sidewalk was added for accessibility from the street,
• The basketball court was re-striped,
• Minor improvements were made to the landscaping
The city used feedback on the project from two community meetings, through verbal and written communication and from students at Leroy Elementary School when determining the look of the park and which improvements to make.
The Alvin B. Thomas Playground Replacement Project was approved on Aug. 28, 2011 by City Council under CR-83. Council approved up to $61,786 for the work.
