utility billing

Water Measurement

Your water charge is based upon water consumption measured in thousand gallons. Each month your meter is read either by a trained Field Utility Representative or an Electronic Radio Transmitter. A numerical value (meter reading) is input into a handheld or laptop computer. Once the reading is input, the computer will accept or reject the reading. A reading is rejected if it is unusual or outside your normal usage pattern. This reading is checked again before a utility bill is issued. If a reading appears to be too high or too low, another reading is requested before your bill is prepared.
Rate Information

Commercial water accounts are billed for water based on a tier rate using percentages of the EQR currently being used. EQR stands for Equivalent Residential Unit which is the average volume of fresh water supplied to an average detached-single-family residential unit account within the city. To determine your EQR, find the capital charge on your utility bill. Divide this charge by 24 (18 for schools, churches and multi-family units). That will give you your EQR. Take the EQR and multiply it times 117,080, then divide it by 12. This is your monthly allocation of water.

Commercial Water Rates and Surcharges
$3.25 per thousand gallons for less than 80 percent EQR
$3.70 per thousand gallons for 80 to 90 percent EQR
$4.75 per thousand gallons for more than 90 percent EQR
$4.75 per thousand gallons for more than 100 percent EQR plus per thousand surcharge when applicable
