new water rates

On Thursday, May 21, City Council approved a change in the city’s water rates. The rates are effective July 1, 2009, and customers will notice the change on their August 2009 water utility statements. The last change to water rates was in June 2004.

There will be a monthly service charge for water based on meter size that will not include any water consumption. The monthly service charge for residents will be $9.55.

The residential water consumption tiers have changed for residential customers to the following:

• Tier 1: $0.70 per 1,000 gallons for 1,000 to 3,000 gallons
• Tier 2: $3.15 per 1,000 gallons for 4,000 to 10,000 gallons
• Tier 3: $3.75 per 1,000 gallons for 11,000 to 20,000 gallons
• Tier 4: $5.37 per 1,000 gallons for all consumption over 20,000 gallons.

Changes to commercial water accounts will be a monthly service charge based on the size of the water meter. Consumption charges will be based on the account’s EQR (Equivalent Residential Unit) allotment.

All commercial consumption for mixed use meters will be $3.25 per 1,000 gallons up to 100 percent of the EQR. Consumption exceeding the 100 percent EQR will be $4.97 per 1,000 gallons.

Irrigation only accounts will be charged $4.97 per 1,000 gallons plus the monthly service charge. Domestic only accounts will be charged $3.25 per 1,000 gallons in addition to the monthly service charge.
