E. B. Rains Park Cleanup

Officers from the Northglenn Police Department volunteer their time and energy to clean up and beatify the E.B. Rains memorial area. The memorial is located on the East side of E.B. Rains Park, 11700 Community Center Drive. Sergeant Steve Garrow is pictured with Chief Russ Van Houten.

E.B. Rains is the only Northglenn Officer to lose his life while on duty in the city's history. Corporal Edgar Blain Rains Jr. lost his life on May 30th, 1984 while protecting the citizens of Northglenn.

Subtopics
Water Resources Planning and Management Team
Our mission is to provide water supply, wastewater management and stormwater management that meet the needs of our city in a fiscally responsible manner.

  • We are committed to safeguarding our citizen’s investment in these systems.

  • We develop strategies to protect and ensure a safe, reliable and high quality water supply through local and regional cooperation.

  • We maintain a leadership role in regulatory issues.

  • We advocate public awareness and stewardship of our water resources.

Water Treatment Facility

The Northglenn Water Treatment Plant operators have been certified by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. They ensure coverage of the Northglenn Water Treatment Facility 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and monitor the treatment system from our raw water source to the finished product, which you see at your water tap. The operators regulate the flow of water from Standley Lake Reservoir to our reservoir and through our treatment system to the storage tanks. They perform various analyses of the water and adjust chemical feeds as necessary to ensure that our residents receive the highest quality and most aesthetically pleasing water possible.

Average water production in the summer is 10 million gallons per day (mgd); average winter production is 3 mgd.

If you would like a tour of our facility, please call 303-451-1289 or e-mail tmoon@northglenn.org to schedule a tour.
Laboratory Services

Our lab analysts conduct many tests (approximately 200 per day) to ensure that your water quality meets all the regulations set by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment as outlined in the Safe Drinking Water Act. Samples are taken from Clear Creek and the canals that feed Standley Lake all the way through the treatment process and out to your home. (They check for metals, bacteria, fluoride, water hardness, pH, nitrates, phosphorus, herbicides, pesticides, radon, uranium, plutonium, and many other elements and compounds.) If you have a water quality question, call 303-450-4070 during regular business hours and our staff will be happy to assist you. After normal business hours, you can call the water treatment facilitiy at 303-451-1289.
Cross Connection

The cross-connection specialist monitors the distribution system (water reaching your home) to prevent contamination or pollution of the water supply as a result of backflow. To learn more about cross-connections and how to prevent contamination of your water supply, see our sections on Water Quality & Safety. If you have questions regarding this topic, call 303-450-4071 or e-mail us.
Education

Northglenn promotes educating residents and students on topics such as water conservation, wetland protection, hydrologic cycle, water pollution, water facts, water treatment and more. These topics are addressed by means of scheduled tours of the facility, classroom presentations, visual displays, videos, and other means.

Wastewater Treatment Facility

The Northglenn Wastewater Treatment Facility is located on 320 acres of land off of Weld County Road #2. Our wastewater facility treats an average of 3.7 million gallons per day, but is capable of handling almost twice that amount.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment inspects the facility and dam and also performs independent water tests at least twice per year. The Environmental Protection Agency spot checks without notice to be sure the facility and wastewater effluent (treated wastewater outflow) meet all regulations. In addition, the city must submit a report to both of these agencies each month.

During the spring and summer months, the facility's treated effluent water is discharged primarily to Bull Canal and is used for crop irrigation. Some effluent water is released to Big Dry Creek and eventually ends up in the South Platte River. About 10,000 tests are run each year as the wastewater travels through the various stages of treatment and discharge to ensure that it meets all regulations set forth in the Clean Water Act.
