Traffic Unit

The Mission of the Traffic Unit is to create safe roadways by reducing the number of speed violations and traffic accidents in Northglenn through comprehensive education, enforcement of traffic laws, and roadway and intersection engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Promote public safety awareness to include verbal and written warnings and education through publication articles and face-to-face time with community groups, schools, and businesses.
  • Enforcement corresponding to the high traffic area of 104th Avenue, 120th Avenue, and Interstate 25.
  • Enforcement corresponding to traffic complaint areas.
  • Directed enforcement in school zones to include pedestrian and bicycle safety programs.

Safety Sensitive Zones

  • Four zones are in effect in areas with significant vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic where speeding is an issue.
  • Like school and construction zones, fines for speeding tickets will be doubled in these areas.
The zone locations are:
  • Ward 1 – Fox Run Parkway from roughly North Park to South Park (speeding, Connect Northglenn improvement not yet implemented)
  • Ward 2 – Irma Drive from south of Fowler Drive to E. 115th Avenue
  • Ward 3 – Community Center Drive from the SCL Health entrance to the Boondocks parking lot (cyclist/pedestrian interaction)
  • Ward 4 – Melody Drive near Northglenn High School (used by students, existing traffic calming measures through Connect Northglenn)
